THE NATIONAL TRUST MUSIC FESTIVAL

BATH
20 - 24 August 2006


This National Trust Music Festival is based in the glorious city of Bath and features a varied and stimulating series of concerts that will be given by a wealth of first rate musicians.
Bath's famous Assembly Rooms,
the focal point of the city's social and cultural life, will host some of the concerts and they will also take place in two delightful churches which have close links with the National Trust, Dyrham and Stourhead and one in the ornate chapel at Tyntesfield.

THE ITINERARY & MUSICAL PROGRAMME
20 August
Please make your own way to the hotel by 14.00 or to Bath Spa railway station by 14.30.
Our first visit will be to Prior Park Landscape Garden which was created by Ralph Allen in the 18th Century and is dramatically located in a sweeping valley and has wonderful views of Bath.
Concert details: Dame Josephine Barstow, soprano, Simon Rowland-Jones, viola and Gary Matthewman, piano.
An unusual assortment of works including a dramatic piece based on a play by the poet Stevie Smith and written especially for Dame Josephine Barstow. Rowland-Jones:

21 August
The morning will be spent in Bath on a walking tour which will include a visit to No1 Royal Crescent, the first house to be built in the Crescent in 1767, and the fine collection at the Holburne Museum of Art.
Later in the afternoon we will leave for a private visit to Stourhead, one of the great classical gardens and then attend a concert in the church here.
The visit will end with dinner in the restaurant before we return to Bath.

22 August
We go to The Courts Garden, a quintessential and intimate English garden full of unusual plants, topiary and fine specimen trees.The afternoon is free in Bath and in the evening we will attend a concert at the Assembly Rooms.

23 August
We drive to Dyhram Park this morning, a house heavily influenced by Dutch tastes and built at the end of the 17th Century.
There will be time to enjoy the garden before we attend a concert in Dyrham Church.The afternoon is free and later we leave for our final visit to the Assembly Rooms.

24 August
We leave the hotel and drive to Tyntesfield, a perfectly preserved Victorian estate set in a ridge overlooking the Yeo Valley.
We will see the work in progress as the complex and lengthy restoration continues to return it to its former glory. After touring the house we will go to the Chapel for the closing concert.
Concert details: Morgan Szymanski - Guitar The brilliant young Mexican guitartist performs a scintillating programme of works by Latin American composers.
